It is a trick question which you should carefully read.
Removing one actually means removing 3 letters i.e. o-n-e
So any four letter word with the letters “one” in it can be the answer to this riddle.

I interpreted this differently. Any four letter word with exactly three identical letters would answer the riddle, as you would be “removing one [letter]” that is used in three instances. Thus, ‘lull’ would be a solution.
