Let us assume the name the items for ease of calculation

So let us assume the following;

Pa = Pastry

Ic = Ice cream cone

Pi = Pizza

D = Donut

So we can convert the equations as follows;

Pa + Ic + Pi + D = 24 ——(1)

Pa + D = Ic ———(2)

Pi – D = 2 ———-(3)

Pa + Pa – 1 = Ic —(4)

Let us write all the equations in terms of D;

Equating 2 & 4 as they have common RHS we get;

Pa + D = Pa + Pa – 1

D = Pa – 1

Therefore;

Pa = D + 1 ——-(5)

Substituting value of Pa in (2) we get;

D + 1 + D = Ic

Therefore;

Ic = 2D + 1 —-(6)

From (3);

Pi – D = 2

Therefore;

Pi = D + 2 —–(7)

Substituting values of Pa, Ic & Pi in (1) we get;

(D + 1) + (2D + 1) + (D + 2) + D = 24;

5D + 4 = 24

5D = 20

Therefore;

D = 4;

From (5)

Pa = D + 1 = 4 + 1 = 5

Therefore;

Pa = 5;

From (6)

Ic = 2D + 1 = 2 x 4 + 1 = 8 + 1 = 9

Therefore;

Ic = 9

From (7);

Pi = D + 2 = 4 + 2 = 6

Therefore;

Pi = 6

So the answers are as follows;

Pastry = 5;
Ice cream Cone = 9;
Pizza = 6 &
Donut = 4
